I will be leaving my position at McClatchy Interactive in a few days. It will mean a big shift for me, but one that I’m really excited about.
I’ve worked with some great people, but in the end, I feel that I have to move on. Working in an industry that is constantly contracting isn’t good for my mental state. Being the guy swimming against the tide eventually exhausts you. I finally realized it wasn’t a dip, but a cul-de-sac.
I have an opportunity to do exactly what I’ve been advocating for while at McClatchy, and that’s one of the biggest reasons I’ve made this choice. I’m looking forward to doing search marketing, brand management and social media leveraging as my main tasks everyday.
I’ll still be blogging and tweeting, now all I need is for you guys to keep reading.

Welcome to the boonies of Hillsborough, Phil — It’s not quite as exciting as Raleigh, but I’m rather enjoying it. Good luck with the new company!

Hello Phil, congrats and good luck. I’m looking forward to hearing more about your upcoming announcements.
Phil Buckley says
Thanks Wayne, you were a big inspiration for me to get out and start networking. I still tell the story of the night a couple of us met up at The Pit and you were chatting with one of the managers, then turned back to the table and said, “always be networking”. It made so much sense to me, simple and straight-forward, it really made a big impact on me.
Robbie McAlister says
Congratulations Mr. Buckley. I’ve been expecting this for a while. You have exhibited much more perseverance than I could have imagined. Good experience though.
They’ll miss you more than they know.
Phil Buckley says
Thanks Robbie, and now I’m passing right past your house everyday!

Hey, I can still bug you from time to time, right?
Wish I had a Pit to go hang out around here — sounds like you’re having all kinds of fun there.

Jennifer, you know I’m always available for my extended Fresno family 🙂
Ryan Boyles says
So Phil, where are you working? I haven’t talked to you since the Pit Lunch Tweetup.
Phil Buckley says
@Ryan – I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever! I took a contract doing SEO/Social up in Hillsborough at the Sinclair Institute.
